    Mastectomy

    Procedure or Surgery

I did develop an infection post surgery and had to be put on antibiotics, other than that the surgery went pretty well. The surgeon left enough skin in case I wanted to have reconstructive surgery although, he advised me against it so I didn't have it.

    Axillary Lymph Node Dissection

    Procedure or Surgery

The surgeon did remove 7 lymph nodes and unfortunately 5 of them were cancerous. I have been very blessed that I have not had a problem with lymphodema.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I had to have triple dose chemo( 3 different drugs administered)each treatment. I was truly blessed that the pills they gave me to take the day of and 2 days after each treatment worked wonderfully for the nausea..I had very little at all. Each treatment was a little worse than the one before and after the 3rd treatment I got pneumonia and a severe blood infection of some kind and almost ended up in CICU. My oncologist agreed that I had gotten to the wrong side of the risk and benefits scale and stopped treatment. He said it does not help to give me the treatment if the treatment is killing me.

    Minimal Side Effects: Disagree
Minimal Impact to Daily Life: Disagree

    Decision Point

My oncologist and I had to decide after 3 triple dose chemo treatments and I ended up with severe infections whether continue the single dose treatments or to stop treatments, after weighing the risks and benefits we determined that the risks were now outweighing the benefits so we agreed to stop the chemo treatments.

I was put on Femara to take away the hormones I have left because my cancer was hormone fed. I have to be on the pills for 5 years, I am currently at year 4. The side effects are not pleasant.
