    Diagnosed

    Oh No

I always thought of myself as not having a cancer personality, and never expected to get cancer. I was especially sure of this because both my parents died of cancer, and I did not see myself as like them: substance abusers who paid little attention to living a healthy lifestyle. I eat organic foods and take vitamins, avoid alcohol and drugs - but I still ended up with a cancer to deal with.

    Surgery

    Procedure or Surgery

I had a DaVinci robot-assisted hysterectomy with removal of both ovaries as well. The surgery and hospital stay went well, but I had a bad experience my first week at home, with a gastrointestinal virus and a severe allergic reaction, possibly to drugs for pain control. After a week of problems, my subsequent recovery has gone pretty well.

    Finished treatment

    Celebration

After my hysterectomy, my pathology report was very good - the cancer was contained in the uterus and did not spread to lymph or other tissues. My surgeon felt no further treatment was necessary, and I am considered cancer free, and only need to have routine check-ups to be sure there is no re-occurence.
