Trial to determine relationship between chemo and pain

    Clinical Trial

My pain levels really didn't change in relation to my chemo experience, so I'm not sure I was a good subject for their trial.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I had TC; four infusions, one every three weeks. Worst side effects were gastrointestinal. I never did lose all of my hair; just a few patches even though I did shave it off. It just stopped growing, as did hair on my legs, etc. Never lost eyelashes or brows, nails got brittle but never terribly bad. Infusions were on Thursdays; I was generally back to normal by Monday. Appetite was definitely impacted. I couldn't stand most of the foods I regularly eat, but two months later I'm back to normal.

    External radiation

    Radiation

I was given hyperfractionated radiation - 16 sessions and a 5 session boost. Skin became bright red and peeled, with one patch of rash on my chest. Sessions were only 15 or 20 minutes each.

    Seroma drained

    Procedure or Surgery

I had a huge seroma that my radiation oncologist thought should be drained, but my surgeon said to wait. Finally, the day before my boost radiation was to start, 350 milliliters of fluid was drained. No infection or problems afterward.

    Hormone therapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Now on Anastrozole. Side effects have been minimal - headaches sometimes, and arthritis seems worse, but I can live with it.

    Anniversary

    Celebration

One year follow-up: MRI and mammogram, both clear, NED. Still very dense tissue, so will be getting MRIs yearly for a while. Also, hair is back - chemo curls, but I'll take it!
