    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I am starting chemo next week, total of 20 weeks. Then facing surgery and then radiation. This is going to be a long journey. Had my first treatment 5/22. The treatment, about 4 hours, was a piece of cake. However, I have had no sleep, have a killer headache even with using Tylenol. I have to have two more MRI biopsies today, and am so not looking forward to it.

    Implant chemotherapy port

    Procedure or Surgery

More biopsies yesterday and next Wednesday. Feel like a pincushion. Having port installed today, and start chemo next week. Four days after having port installed, still a lot of soreness and awkwardness. It made my first chemo tx much easier though, so I'm glad I did it!

Low blood counts, nausea, weakness and fatigue, taste changes, weight loss, chemo brain, neuropathy

    Side Effects

I'm having a really rough time with the side effects. I've had 3 of the 4 AC treatments. After that I have 12 Taxotere treatments. I am very weak and shaky the whole time. I have thrown up in spite of being on Zofran and Atavan. I have stomach lining irritation I'm taking a med for. I get severe diarrhea and then I get mouth sores. This is getting really tough! Managed to get through the chemo. Dealt with a lot of side effects and low blood counts. Had to have a blood transfusion at one point.

I still have three chemo treatments to go. I have had to delay treatment several times due to very low blood counts. I just had a blood transfusion this last week. Am hoping that will allow me to finish my chemo so I can move on to surgery and radiatio

I have finished chemo (six months, which included a blood transfusion)! I have surgery scheduled for Nov 16. I believe I am through the worst of this journey.

    External radiation

    Radiation

I go today (12/5/18) for a CT scan to prepare for radiation. I will start next week. I will also start an oral chemo drug since after IV chemo and surgery I still had microscopic cancer cells in the removed tissue and the sentinel lymph nodes. Finished radiation 1/29/18. Had to deal with some severe burns. Apparently being on the Xeloda at the same time intensifies the burning. I found that coating with Vaseline when I came home after treatment helped more than any of the creams I tried.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I am now taking Xeloda, a chemo drug, to hopefully kill any remaining microscopic cancer cells. They were found in the tumor and lymph nodes that were removed.

    Other

    Side Effects

I am just finishing my fourth round of Xeloda. Starting to have more severe side effects: stomach pain, not wanting to eat, fatigue . Will have to see what my doctor wants to do when I go in for blood work before the next round. So ready to be done with all this.

    Celebration

I had my yearly mammogram this week. There are no signs of cancer! I have one more round of Xeloda and then I am through except for monitoring.

    Milestones

I had my first three month oncology appointment since my treatment. The plan is three month doctor visits with labs, and alternate breast MRI and mammogram every six months for the next 2-3 years. I'm still having quite a bit of pain from the radiation, but was told that is "not unusual".

    Fatigue (tiredness)

    Side Effects

Two months post-treatment. People think I should be bouncing back to normal. I don't even know what normal is any more. I'm just trying to listen to my body, and rest when I need to. Healing is a slow process.
