    Laparoscopy

    Procedure or Surgery

Had diagnostic laparoscopy for diagnosis , staging and removal of ascites due to location and number of tumors ( dr said it looked like someone threw a cup of rice in my abdomen -there were so many small tumors) unable to do surgery, so did 6 cycles of chemo (Carboplatin & Taxol

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

6 cycles of Carboplatin/Taxol. I was violently ill for a week following first cycle. Could not keep anything down, even water despite anti-nausea drugs. My husband finally asked me to try baking soda disolved in water and that neutralized the acid an helped tremendously. I learned you must stay hydrated. The chemo zaps all of the moisture in your body. I really suffered with constpation. I found that if he drank lots of water and took stool softeners it really helped. The water also helps flush the drugs from your body faster.

    Implant chemotherapy port

    Procedure or Surgery

Had port implanted after 2nd cycle of chemo. I STRONGLY suggest a port. Our veins are not made to handle chemo. I had so many problemswith chemo leaking I demanded they put in a port. No more problems since then. I love my port!

    Oh No

On my first outing after my surgery (other than doctor visits) I fell and broke my arm. As if cancer is not enough!

    Celebration

In March, 2018 I was declared NED (no evidence of disease). Looks like treatment was successful.

    Cancer is back/Recurred

    Oh No

In July, 2018 CT showed pulmonary nodule consistent with platinum sensitive recurrence. I had a small nodule (about the size of the tip of my little finger) on my diaphragm. Since my CA125 had doubled the last 2 checks, my doctor felt certain this was a recurrence and I needed more chemo.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Began 6 cycles (1 cycle every three weeks) of Carboplatin/Gemcitabine/Avastin. Had to discontinue the carboplatin and change to oxaliplatin on cycle 2 due to allergic reaction.

    Legionella Pneumonia

    Oh No

After 5 cycles of chemo, I contracted Legionella Pneumonia (legionaires disease). The doctor thought I got it due to my compromised immune system. It is not passed human to human - you get it from contaminated droplets of water from hvac units or misters/sprayers. Since I only had one scheduled cycle of chemo left and my CA125 was normal the doctor decided to skip the last cycle and start maintenance therapy, so I began maintenance with Avastin

    Maintenance or consolidation chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Began maintenance Avastin. The only problems I continue to have are recurrent UTIs. We don't know if this is a side effect or some other issue. Will possibly referred to a Urologist.
