    Bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction

    Decision Point

Well I decided to do a BMX and immediate reconstruction. Expanders will be placed at surgery. Reason: my maternal aunt was diagnosed same age as me. She went with lumpectomy, radiation and 5 years of drugs. Not for me. After she finished treatment the cancer came back within a few years. Then she had a mastectomy. The nest year they found it in her lungs and then the next year her Brian. Worst death I have ever seen. A year of sheer agony. For my keeping my breasts is not worth the risk. It not a decision anyone wants to have to make but sadly it has to be done. I am worried about recovery and complications but I no longer have to worry about this type of cancer. Maybe my decision would be different if I had not seen my aunt suffer so much.

    Just Diagnosed

    Oh No

Still cannot wrap my head around the Drs words, "you have cancer but we caught it early". I think you only hear the first few words at that point. I think it took me a few days to believe what I heard. But eventually you accept it and start preparing yourself for what is next. Your decision as to what you will do.

    Double Mastectomy

    Procedure or Surgery

I am very happy to have two wonderful Doctors who walked through what to expect after double mastectomy nad immediate reconstruction. I was in the hospital overnight. At the hospital I was mostly drugged. But The day I want home was pretty good. Some tightness some pain. The third after surgery which is today has been terrible. The pain has come on strong. I can barely move. Then came the fever. I think I dealing very well probably because I was still full of the hospital meds put in my IV Now that it has worn off I feel th real pain. I sure hope this does last for long.
