    Oh No

First PSA was 150 and it was in the lymph nodes and a few bone locations!

I have been on hormone therapy for almost a year. I continue to feel great.

    Type 1 diabetes

    Oh No

I also have type 1 diabetes. I have been on insulin for 40 years. I have an insulin pump and a continuous glucose monitor. I used to think that dealing with diabetes all I could deal with.

    Cancer has spread/Metastasized

    Oh No

Had CT scans and bone scans. Found cancer spreading. Also found cancer blocking one kidney, although blood work and overall kidney function looks good. Also have a bony growth in lower left jaw/gums with some bone protrusion. Waiting on results of a second scan to see if it's cancer or bone infection. Moving toward participation in a drug trial of Abiraterone.

    Building a single story house.

    Celebration

My wife and I are building a ranch house four lots away. It will be smaller and designed for us. Our bedroom and bathroom will now be on the main floor. Very exciting! It will be ready mid-May.

    Zytiga with breakfast after fasting

    Clinical Trial

When my psa started rising my oncologist encouraged me to sign up for a clinical trial taking Zytiga with breakfast and no food before breakfast. I was supposed to take only one pill, instead of the 4 pills listed on the prescription. If one pill with breakfast works as well as 4 pills the cost is much less and easier for patients to afford. I started and after a month my psa was going down, but my liver enzymes skyrocketed. They took me off Zytiga, waited for liver enzymes to reach normal and asked me to take one pill every two days. Unfortunately the same thing happened. We stopped, waited for blood tests to be normal and tried one pill every three days. Same thing happened, so Zytiga is not a treatment for me. We are switching to Xtandi. It's arriving in 2 days and I will start that. Hopefully blood tests after 2 weeks will be relatively normal and I can continue on it. Praying for good results.

    Xtandi

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Xtandi didn't do a thing. Psa kept rising. So we ended it and started chemo.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Started with Taxotere. Serious mouth sores, changes in my vein appearance, loss of hair, and after 5 treatments the psa kept going up, So did a scan. Some tumors were growing and some were shrinking. So we topped this and tried something else.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Next was Jevtana. No mouth sores, my hair is coming back in, more tired. After 6 treatments my psa dropped twice quite a bit. After the 7th treatment the psa went almost back to the high point. I am very disappointed. No treatments seems to work.
