    Misdiagnosed

    Oh No

Had an MRI in 1993 due to migraine headaches. Mass was seen on left thalamus at that point although no diagnosis was provided. At that time was advised against biopsy of the mass. "Wait and watch" MRI's to follow.

December 2004 - Due to two additional small lesions on my follow up MRI, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Got a 2nd opinion and that neurologist concurred.

    Breakthrough

    Celebration

Felt AMAZING following venoplasty treatment. NO headaches and more energy than I had in years.

Take a chance on treatment considered "experimental"

    Decision Point

My fatigue had progressed to a point that I could not deal with anymore. I read about venoplasty to treat chronic cerebro-spinal venous insufficiency and took a chance, I was tested and my jugular veins were 80% and 60% stenosed so I had the venoplasty performed in July 2011.

Set back - symptoms re-emerged. My regular neurologist completed a referral to UTSW MS clinic.

Did not get in to UTSW until April 2012. Their MS specialist questioned my diagnosis thus started a battery of tests and visits to various specialists.

    Procedure or Surgery

The procedure itself went as expected. It was the 17 day wait for results that we were not prepared for.

    Minimal Side Effects: Strongly Agree
Minimal Impact to Daily Life: Agree

Diagnosed with Grade 2 Astrocytoma of the left thalamus. Tumor board has rendered it inoperable due to the location.
