    Diagnosed

    Oh No

I went to the ER for an excruciating backache pn 4/20/2012. I thought it was caused by a pinched nerve because my back was bothering me for a few weeks..That is when I learned that I had a mass in my left lung. The cancer had spread to the back and lymph nodes in the stomach. I was stunned because I never smoked. I ended up with some surgery on the spine as well as radiation for the back and some of the lymph nodes. I learned that I have a gene mutation, so I am currently using Tarceva via pill. I am hoping that it works. I need alot of support and prayers to keep me going. In the meantime, I was getting too much fluid in the lung, so I had some surgery to add talc so I wouldn't get the fluid.

    External radiation

    Radiation

I had to take morphine (15mg) to deal with the pain on the metal table. I had to take medication to handle the nausea/vomiting caused by the morphine.

    Targeted therapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I have been taking Tarceva (via pill) for the gene mutation. Since the end of June, I have been taking one pill in the morning. I cannot eat breakfast for a least one hour after I take the pill. I prefer this rather that the chemo. Before I learned that the gene mutation was the cause, the hospital convinced me to have the port installed. It is extremely uncomfortable, expecially when wearing the seat belt.. So far, I only used it when I was in the hospital in June (blood test). Regarding the pill, I have had diarrhea as expected. If this works (and I hope it does), I will have to take it for the rest of my life.

    Easy to Do: Strongly Agree
    Minimal Side Effects: Neutral/NA
Minimal Impact to Daily Life: Agree

    Other Care

When I got out of the hospital, I was visited 2 times a week by an RN. I am currently staying with friends and they received a hospital bed for the family room.
