    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I've skipped a step or two in my entries. I received my first chemo on 8/31. I haven't gotten my port yet, so it had to be administered directly through the veins. The infusion staff was great, but I was very nervous. I had some issues with the drip so it took over 5 hours to complete. I have some side effects...rash, severe constipation, and fatigue. Up until today I was feeling out of it, but thank the Lord, I am in a happy place today. I am trying to find foods that appeal to me, but haven't been very successful. I am not going to give up looking for the delicious tasting morsel :). Thanks to everyone that responded to my first report. I only just read everything today because I was so scared, but I realize that life must go on and I am not alone.

    Allergic reaction

    Side Effects

I have rashes that break out on my hand, sometimes my chest, and my arms. Right now I am taking benadryl and using creams which help. Sometime if it gets too bad I have to take steriods.

    Depression/Anxiety

    Side Effects

When I was first diagnosed I was very depressed and had extreme anxiety. As I began to speak with my team of doctors, I became less depressed and the anxiety was gone. I now found that I am dealing with both symptons again. I know it's not entirely due to having cancer, but more because the side effects from chemo have gotten so difficult to deal with. I hate hearing that you should probably take this med because of this side effect, now you must take this med for that side effect, and so on. Each visit to my chemo oncologist and breast specialist brings more info....okay now let's have you go see the radiation oncologist (breast will shrink, no reconstruction until treatment finish) and the plastic surgeon (ok tummy tuck method not good for me, implants better, but not until after all treatments are completed, in the meantime we will have expanders). None of the information for radiation and surgery concrete until i have another conversation with breast specialist. Yup I am depressed and have anxiety.

    Fatigue (tiredness)

    Side Effects

I am so fatigued, can't even sweep kitchen without having to sit down. My oconlogist has informed me it's due the the anemia and the chemo. Because of this side effects and some others I have had to go on disability. I've have to drive quite a distance to and from work and it was affecting that. Even at work, our break room is pretty far from my desk, we are not allowed to eat at work station, by the time I walk to breakroom, my lunch is half over because I walk so slow and have to stop and catch my breath. Once I went to my V.P. at work she and my Supervisor were nice enough to inquire if I would consider working from home for a few hours. Well we just got that approved, so now I will only be on partial disability. I love my job as they did the same thing for me when my has had a stroke and I became and remained his caregiver.

    Nerve damage (peripheral neuropathy)

    Side Effects

I began getting tingling in my hands after the first treatment, but it bad. I now have it in my fingers and toes and it's a little bothersome. I informed by doctor that I now have pains in my legs, I sometimes feel like walk like i am 90 years old. The doctor informed it was one of meds during chemo and it was being reduced by 20%. That was done today during my 4th treatment so hopefully it will help.
