    Diagnosed

    Oh No

Surgery is planned for a mastectomy in less than a week, all the testing, pathology testing and bone scans, mri's, ct scans, x-rays, ultrasounds and more ultrasounds and more biopsies have been done. I have IDC, that in lymphovascular, I have 3 areas of concern, and microscopic cancer cells located in tissue near my chest muscule..ugh. We had planned to do a lumpectomy but given the result of the lastest biopsy it is out the window and a mastectomy is the only option now. I am both ER and PR postive and Her2 positve. The team say surgery/start reconstruction at the same time, chemo then radiation.. I will take herceptin and another drug also not sure what since I am not Post menopausal... Its hard for me to wrap my head around it just all of a sudden appearing, I had a bx 2 years ago on the same breast that was benign due to calcifications, now that area is malignant and has advanced, i had frequent mammograms every 6 month and between the time for me to have my next i found a lump in the shower...boy..its a bummer

Lumpectomy vs Mastectomy not a choice anymore

    Decision Point

When I was first diagnoses with IDC in June 2012, we were thinking the surgeon could be conservative and do a lumpectomy, the last biopsy result came in and what I thought was a choice became no choice at all...I now have to have a mastectomy due to the advancement of my cancer and it being lymphovascular...sad.

    Reconstructive sugery options....

    Decision Point

Was told I could not have implants done due to the radiation not being able to get to the area to radiate well, talked to surgeon again and plastic surgeon and a compromise is worked out, NO flap for me as that is not what i wanted. I will have TE put in when surgery is done but they will be inflated and deflated according to radiation t reatments so the area are easier to get too...thank God....

    Cancer has spread/Metastasized

    Oh No

Had Stage 3C invasive Ductal Breast cancer 2012, went thru mastectomy, Chemo, Herceptin, Radiation and oral Tamoxifen then Letrazole. Mammograms for other side and cancer marker test routinely. My dr skipped checking markers for[phone number redacted] until I noticed a spot that kept coming and going in the mastectomy side when I was in with my annual Oncology Radiation f/u I asked what it could be but they didnt know and sent me to see my oncologist 3 weeks earlier than my F/u with her. Got to oncologist and she wasnt sure so had a skin biopsy done on mastectomy side, turned out to be inflammatory Breast Cancer something new and more lethal. Ordered port placed and did pet scan, New diagnosis was if right side, but saw enlarged lymph nodes on left side as well. Tumor board recommended biopy of nodes my oncologist that it was just inflammation due to port placement but surprised had to admit it was metastasis of my original cancer from right. I was shy of my 5 year mark just a few months. So since They werent sure about my treatment plan or really how to handle the two cancers or at least made me feel they were wishy washy by changing up my plan of treatment for 2 months. I went for 2nd opinion at MD Anderson in TX who had a special team that handled Inflammatory Breast Cancer, they were great formed a plan of action immediately and sent the plan to my NC oncologist to follow, and now is instructing my treatment and care. Chemo has just been completed I am still on Herceptin and Perjeta and headed for surgery in TX in next couple weeks then targeted Radiation on Left side and Right chest and removal of left nodes as well as removal if affected skin for the Inflammatory Breast cancer. Another journey I made it ince “ I got this!”
