Diagnosed
Oh No
Diagnosed this year, on my 48th birthday. :(
Hormone therapy
Drug or Chemo Therapy
Tamoxofen has put me into thermonuclear menopause.
Type of reconstruction
Decision Point
I knew I didn't want implants, which was the only reconstruction my insurance offered. After reading "The Breast Reconstruction Handbook," I knew I wanted the DIEP Flap procedure. It took 2 calls to the state insurance commission, but now my insurance has agreed to pay for it.
CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine)
Other Care
I saw Rhona Jordan for a guided imagery session to prepare me for surgery. After our appointment, I felt relaxed and confident all the way through.
Mastectomy
Procedure or Surgery
I was scheduled for a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction. I woke up to having one breast removed and everything else delayed due to a finding of cancer in 8 lymph nodes.
