Diagnosed
Oh No
Diagnosed at age 33, just 4 months after leaving my husband and buy my first house alone.
Implant chemotherapy port
Procedure or Surgery
This person has yet to add any details about this experience.
Chemotherapy
Drug or Chemo Therapy
I think surviving chemo is strongly related to your attitude! You have to WANT to fight and WANT to not let chemo get you down!
Hair loss (alopecia)
Side Effects
I ROCKED bald!!! Never wore a wig! Let the bald shine naturally! Hair is SO overrated! I miss being bald! ;-)
Finished treatment
Celebration
On the last day of chemo, my closest friends and family went out for dinner and drinks! CELEBRATE every step of this journey! Diagnosis doesn't mean death! It means a chance for a new start!
Mastectomy
Procedure or Surgery
The bi-lateral mastectomy was nothing compared to what was coming!
External radiation
Radiation
I had serious burns to my skin and a post radiation infection! I don't feel radiation decreased my odds of reoccurring cancer enough to go through what I had to endure!
Breast Reconstruction (Flap)
Procedure or Surgery
I couldn't push pull or life ANYTHING for 7 weeks. But it's not always bad to let others take care of you for a little while! This was not a bad time in my life! Just a very relaxing time! ;-)
Tissue Expansion
Procedure or Surgery
I am still going through bi-weekly and/or monthly expansion. The muscles in my chest are very tight and not allowing expansion to go as planned. What should have been approximately 4 months of expansion has turned into about 9 months. I'm very happy to say my implant surgery is finally scheduled for November.......TWO years after chemotherapy started!
