    Diagnosed

    Oh No

Had issues and went in for a colonoscopy. Results were a bit of a shock. Colon cancer but the worst was yet to come. After a CT and PET scan, I was additionally diagnosed with Liver cancer, stage 4.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I started chemo on July 5th. Since then, I have had 7 chemo treatments and for the last two they have thrown the 'kitchen sink' at me. Went to UCLA and met with 2 teams of doctors that will do surgery once the liver tumor has shrunk. On my last PET it shrunk by 4 mm and they want it smaller so that surgery has a better outcome. I agree. I can handle chemo. It's a means to an end.

    Diarrhea

    Side Effects

Diarrhea is the worst side effect for me anyway. I was tired for about 7 - 10 days after each treatment however, I lost my job in August after my 3rd treatment and quite honestly, that was the best thing to happen to me. I am able to take care of me and if I get tired, I take a nap. I dont take much for granted anymore. Cancer will do that to you. You truly appreciate life and all that it has to offer. I will NEVER say why me.....why not me? I am strong and able to handle this. My 'role model' had cancer for over 28 years and was a strong, beautiful, vibrant woman and she is my angel watching over me as I go through this journey. I cant wait for surgery so that I can move on to the next stage, survivor!

    Low platelet counts (thrombocytopenia)

    Side Effects

My platelets went from over 300 down to 78. A transfusion was considered and after 2 weeks went up from 78 to 105. Still low but no transfusion. Positive mental attitude. I didnt want the transfusion and ate Kale, garlic thinking this would help. I think it did but after speaking to a nutritionist was told that the Kale causes diarrhea so I was hurting myself thinking I was helping myself. Total learning experience.
