    Diagnosed

    Oh No

Misdiagnosed for several years. My primary care Dr. chalked all my symptoms up to Irritable Bowel Syndrome prescribed meds.,,,as it continued to get worse...now showing bright red blood in the toilet...diagnosed it as Ulcerative Colitis...perscribed meds. Fatigue .. weakness..losing weight. Saw the nurse practitioner at my Dr.s office and she scheduled a colonoscopy asap. along with blood work and stool samples. Even though she knew I wasn't of screening age...she wanted it done. Had to pay my deductible out of pocket at the time of colonoscopy close to $700.00 and 20% of the procedure cost because it was a diagnostic screening and not a preventative screening...which would have been no charge. Woke up from anesthesia ..husband by my side...Dr. says...It's cancer- seen enough of these to know and we need to schedule you for surgery. This was on Aug. 3rd. 2012

    Colon surgery (colectomy or hemicolectomy)

    Procedure or Surgery

Surgery on Aug.17th. 2012 Surgery went well..longer than expected but no major problems... had an allergic reaction to Morphine...didn't know I had. Pain was minimal- I had an epidural in place prior to surgery that remained in place for almost 2 days. Was up walking day after surgery. Hospitalized for 6 days. Dr. says got the tumor..lymph nodes....2 were positive which means chemo...about 2 months after surgery.

    Went as Expected: Strongly Agree
    Minimal Recovery: Disagree
    Minimal Side Effects: Agree
Minimal Impact to Daily Life: Agree
