Decided to have a double prophylactic mastectomy with immediate reconstruction @ 4 years after initial diagnosis
Decision Point
I found myself subconsciously thinking that I would not be around for much longer because of course I was going to get cancer again. Once I realized that had become ingrained in me, I decided not to let that happen, at least not without a fight. It took a lot of strength to make the decision to have a double prophylactic mastectomy, though! I also was worried about what the recovery would mean for me, or how long it would take.

Breast Reconstruction (Flap)
Procedure or Surgery
I had a DIEP flap reconstruction after the double prophylactic mastectomy. Massive surgery (11 hours on the table). First 10 days of recovery were hard. At 3 months, I was back to doing everything I was doing before. I'm at 6 months now and feeling great!
