    Hair loss (alopecia)

    Side Effects

By my 10th treatment, all my hair was gone. Started wearing a wig at my 7th or 8th treatment. Found a great wig that was exactly like my hairstyle. Took a little time to get used to it, but then it was part of my morning routine of getting dressed and putting on make-up, etc.

    Double Mastectomy

    Procedure or Surgery

My surgery was done at Mass General Hospital. I only had to stay for one night. I was sore but only took over the counter pain meds. I was terrified of this surgery, but the recovery was not as bad as I had anticipated.

    Hair loss (alopecia)

    Side Effects

My hair started growing back from my chemo before surgery, so when I started round 2 of chemo, it was depressing to be losing the little hair that had come back. It was OK since I never stopped wearing the wig anyway. Just knew it would be that much longer I would have to wait to get my hair back.

    Positive for Braca II gene

    Decision Point

Because I tested positive for the Braca II gene, I had to decide if I wanted to remove my ovaries and tubes as I was now at high risk for ovarian cancer.

    Both ovaries and tubes removed

    Procedure or Surgery

Was highly recommended to get this procedure done. It was done laprascopically (sp?) and recovery was quick and easier than I thought.

I now take bone strengthening drugs once a year and hope that this will prevent my breast cancer from going to my bones. Fingers crossed!!!!
