    Diagnosed

    Oh No

There is no history of Breast cancer in my family, so, being 43 years old at the time make it difficult to understand, why me? Soon after diagnosis, I underwent a breast MRI. My Oncologist was surprised to find a second lump (2.8cm) behind the 3cm mass that we saw on the Mamogram. He also found speckles behind my breast bone, all my lymph nodes infected and several lumps in my neck. This changed his plan for treatment to a much faster and envasive treatment plan.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I started Chemo within 2 weeks of being diagnosed. It was very strong and made me very sick. I also suffer from Neuropathy in my fingers and toes from one of the Chemos. Some days it was all I could do to make it from the couch to the bathroom and back. But my attitude stayed strong with all the love and support from family and friends.

    Double Mastectomy

    Procedure or Surgery

I was rushed back into surgery the second night in the Hospital due to a hematoma where my right breast used to be. After blood and plasma transfusions, I was finally on the road to recovery, or so I thought. I had radiation after my double mastectomy, which caused tightening of the tissue. This lead to 4 more sugeries, including removing my implants and having deep flap surgery to replace my implants with my own tissue from my abdomen. To think the insurance companies want to make Mastectomy's an out patient procedure makes me mad. They need to walk in the shoes of a patient before making such a outlandish decision.

    Breast Reconstruction (Flap)

    Procedure or Surgery

This 8 hour surgery went well, but, I was in intensive care for the first 24 hours, with instructions to move as little as necessary. I had so many things hooked to me, I couldn't move if I wanted to. After 2 days of being bedridden I got out of bed to walk, I thought I was going to split in two. I needed the help of a walker for a few days and went home after a week.

    Finished treatment

    Celebration

After 15 months of Chemo. 37 treatments of radiation, and 7 surgeries I was finally done. My hair started to grow back and I changed my whole perspective on life, knowing now how precious each day is. I thank God for every day He gives me.
