    Bilateral Mastectomy or mastectomy

    Decision Point

I had to decide to live with one breast and get mammograms and possible biopsies or remove both breasts for peace of mind. I went with the bilateral. I felt I could not live with constant worry.

    Double Mastectomy

    Procedure or Surgery

The drains for me were the worst. Also the limited activity I was able to do. Having to rely on people was hard for me.

    Body part/function

    Loss

Losing my breasts was much harder then expected. Even now, being bald from chemo, I feel less of a woman, non sexual.

    Long-term catheter

    Procedure or Surgery

The port procedure for me was awful, I experienced a lot of discomfort for a week after. I still have my port and now it is OK.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Chemo for me was hard, not only losing your hair, diarrhea, mouth sores, extreme exhaustion, swelling, but the emotional aspect of everything happening.
