    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I was very scared of starting chemo. I read a lot about it but finally just listened to my oncologist and super nurses at the chemo center and followed what was suggested. I had good support with my best friend coming with me the first time. After that I had my cousin Ann and other friends drive me back and forth to the chemo center. They stayed with me which made it easier for me. I threw up quite a bit especially when in a car. The med that was given me helped me not to throw up but it made my stomach quezzy and I didn't feel too good. Sometimes, it felt better just to throw up. Now I have neoropothy in my feet and hands. It comes and goes..mostly my feet in the mornings. I did get to work as much as possible from home. I am in marketing and my clients were very supportive. I also could not have the cats in my room but the dogs were ok. I run a humane society so it was hard not seeing my furry friends all the time. They had to stay in another part of the house. When I got thru 7 treatments of chemo I stopped. I felt it was more than enough for my body to handle. I remember always having swiss miss, frosted flakes, and lots of protien to get me thru the not wanting to eat stages. Being a vegetarian was hard so I ate bacon, roasted turkey and lots of frozen smart food macaroni meals. It worked. It is good to keep crackers around too for a snack with a piece of cheese to top them off. I got to eat almost everything ....got my appetite back when chemo stopped and I gained back my weight I lost thru chemo. The most important thing is to believe you are going to be ok. I kept a sunny attitude but did let the tears flow when they came on.

    Nausea/Vomiting

    Side Effects

Vomitting was the worst for me. Like I mentioned, being in a car was hard. The back roads were easier than the highway. Once I was constipated but I am a big fan of prune juice and quaker oats. The oncologist gave me stool softeners but I think the juice worked better for me. Remember this too shall pass. My favorite quote while going thru side effects.

When I got to 5 treatments I did not want to have more. I went for 7

    Decision Point

I knew at 7 that I had to have a break from chemo. I think my body told me enough is enough. I had a yearly colonoscopy and all is perfect. All my tests have come back good! THANK GOD!

    Anniversary

    Celebration

After celebrating 1 year this past week I went out with my cousins for coffee and breakfast. It was fun... I am back to doing all I did before the surgery and chemo. I was very blessed as I did not lose my hair. I did lose some strands and now that they came back my hair is thicker in the bang area. I liked being done chemo as I can color my hair blonde again and polish my nails. Time to be a girly girl again!
