    Diagnosed

    Oh No

Needle Biopsy performed because pain from "stress fracture" was not responding to treatment. Found large tumor located on the right proximal femur (at the hip)

    Where to get treatment

    Decision Point

We were in Grand Rapids, MI. There were no doctors that had experience in this type of cancer there. We could stay there, go to University of Chicago (we had family connections there, and family support near by). Or, go to University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. We chose UofC

What type of prosthetic to get

    Decision Point

My wife was give the choice of having a traditional "glued" prostetic similar to a hip replacement, or go with a newer "compression" type implant that is pinned in place under pressure. Even though it had a longer recover time (6 months no weight bearing), she chose the newer prosthetic because it had long term benefits(less chance of having to replace the replacement)

    Surgery

    Procedure or Surgery

A limb salvage surgery was performed at University of Chicago, her Orthopedic doctor was awesome. They were able to resect the tumor with good margins, and they found over 90% necrosis which indicated that the chemo was working

    Heart problems/heart damage

    Side Effects

Before the third round, my wife was tested for cardio toxicity. They found some damage to her heart function, but decided to do the final round anyways.

    Surgery

    Procedure or Surgery

She had a golf ball sized nodule removed from her lung. It was attached to her pluera (lining of the lungs). The had to remove parts of 4 ribs. Unfortunately, after pathology, they found that they did not have good margins around the resection.

    Surgery

    Procedure or Surgery

She had a partial lobectomy, and 3 or 4 more nodules removed from her lung. There were a few nodules that were examined with frozen sections that initially came back as non-cancerous, but after additional pathology were determined to be cancerous. For some reason the doctors would not do another lung surgery on her.
