    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

First round of chemo was not so bad, but was sick when I came into hospital with sore throat. My throat continued to hurt while in hospital. Also, had a piece of popcorn stuck in tooth, which I didn't know if it was abcess or what until I got out of hospital.( a month later) Dentist found a tiny piece of a kernal in my gum. Pain went away immediately. Started losing hair within three weeks., Was in hospital for a month for first round of chemo.

Second round of chemo was easier--no more popcorn in gum and tooth, was only in hospital for a week for the consoladation chemo.

Decide on bone marrow transplant and to move to SLC from Idaho

    Decision Point

Decided it was my best chance of survival. Elected for bone marrow transplant. Found out my only sibling was a 100% match.

    Full body radiation

    Radiation

At this point, had moved to SLC and was in hospital. Radiation didn't feel to bad during the 6 days but the after effects were not good. Had really bad Mucacitis really bad. Couldn't swallow, my lips were swollen and black--had a hard time breathing..ended up in ICU because of these effects.

Still in hospital-pre-transplant. Two days of chemo. Effects at time were minimal. Not quite a week after transplant side effects of radiation and chemo started taking effect.

    Bone Marrow Transplant

    Procedure or Surgery

Still in hospital. Transplant went well--just like a blood transfusion. A few days after transplant all side effects from chemo/radation and low blood counts started to take effect.

I did get a small amount of GVHD in the form of a rash. Luckily a prescription cleared it up with in a week.

    Home care

    Other Care

Came down with a CMV infection, so had to do infusions at home (twice a day) and a magnesioum solution once a day via central line. But at least I am in apartment--still not at home in Idaho.

Just waiting for 100 day post bone marrow transplant

    Decision Point

At one hundred days post transplant, will do a bone marrow biopsy to see if Luekemia is gone. If it is clear and no GVHD and no other infections/problems--drs will allow me to go back to Idaho and continue to be monitored there. With a trip to SLC once a month.
