    Diagnosed

    Oh No

I got a bad pain on my side on a friday and was taken to my pediatrician after ye weekend on the Monday. After many tests and hours, we were called into the doctors office where he told us they think something's wrong and I might har cancer. My father and I were told to go to the hospital for further testing where the diagnosis was later confirmed.

    Hospitalization

    Other Care

Once it was confirmed at the hospital, they said I would have to stay the night while they decide what they were going to do. It was now Tuesday and the shock had not passed yet. Later in the day, a surgeon walked into my room to talk to my parents and I about what they decided to do. The final decision was to operate and take out the whole kidney. They also said that chemotherapy was going to follow the surgery. After he left the room was silent and the night, well another sleepless one.

    Surgery

    Procedure or Surgery

I was operated on December 10, 2003, aka my birthday. It was a very emotional day for both my parents and I. The thought of the procedure going bad always lingered in our heads, but we never let it overtake our mentality. By the time it was noon I was going into the operating room in which I would remain for 8 hours. Great birthday present right? It was, because I awoke a couple of hours after the procedure finished.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I began chemotherapy a couple of weeks after the surgery. That had to be one of the worst experiences I have ever had. I had to travel every Wednesday to a hospital 40 minutes away for 6 months. I met many kids like me in the waiting rooms, one of whom was a girl one year older than I was who was from the same school district. It felt good to know that I was not the only one. Ye actual chemo was bad in the sense that I got many side affects. This included nausea, bad moods (sad), and I was very tired. Most of all I felt weak, mosty from that fact that I couldn't retain food.
