    Cancer is back/Recurred

    Oh No

Went in for my one year follow up. Blood test was a bit elevated to had to go through another radio iodine scan. Two weeks of a low iodine diet .....scan news was great didn't have to have radiation. Blood work two days later indicated my thyroid count were extremely high. Had to come in and have a PET scan, results were not what I wanted to hear. Two lymph nodes are now effected....OMG am I going to die one lymph node is in my chest, after a ultra sound seems they are two small (7mm) to biopsy. So now it's a waiting game to see if it gets larger, so looking at further scans and biopsy in the future. Waiting game now. What seems to have happened is my body doesn't absorb iodine anymore so if I need treatment I am told a form of chemo (the oral pill kind). Don't know what the future holds and I get so tired of always being the strong one...don't have a choice as a sole parent to my children....I tell myself to Livestrong. I just want it all over and to know I am cancer free as I once thought just a few months ago.

I take Votrient a Oral Chemo

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Votrient when i started taking it had just come off trial. I have been on it for over a year. It has kept my cancer from spreading and some on my spots are shrinking. Although they are keeping a close look on my lungs since there are now a couple of small spots there. It's not widely used but in a few years it may be. Very costly but there are ways to get financial aide for this med. My side effect are minimal and only change to my hair is the color. There are no long term studies on how long it will be effective but it working so far and I am happy to have a active part in my kids lives as well as work part time.

    Easy to Do: Strongly Agree
    Minimal Side Effects: Neutral/NA
Minimal Impact to Daily Life: Neutral/NA

    Radio Iodine

    Radiation

Two weeks of a low iodine diet. Everything has iodine in it by the way. Getting tired of it all. Two days of going in for a shot then scans. Scan does not show anything but they decide still to give me a low dose of radio iodine. Then more blood work and tomorrow go in for the post radiation scan. Yes, just tired of it all.

    Painless Experience: Agree
    Minimal Side Effects: Neutral/NA
Minimal Impact to Daily Life: Disagree

    Surgery

    Procedure or Surgery

2015 April they took my spleen to biopsy. It was not needed they were about to get a good biopsy of a spot on my liver but took my spleen so they could see what was going on. Well they found out what they thought was cancer was not it was sarcoidosis, it mimics cancer. Oh I still have cancer but it had not matastised like they had thought

    Surgery

    Procedure or Surgery

Removal of cancer in thyroid bed the three lymph nodes. Two nodes on my left side which were suspected of being cancer were clear or cancer and any sign of sarcoidosis. Lymph node on the right top of bed turned out to be black on cancer. Very glad they got that. There was still cancer left in the outer areas of thyroid bed. Guess they could cut my neck off then I could get rid of the cancer.

    Just tired of it all

    Decision Point

For five years I have had to deal with thyroid cancer for 26 of those months on a oral chemo that I did not need to be taking because they did not rule out the three other things that my PET scan results said could of been. Well I turn out to be the first my doctors have had with cancer and sarcoidosis. Some can be over cancer in just a few months but me it's been five years and they really do not know what is going or how to treat me. I feel the radiation I just had was a waist of thousands of dollars but they did it to protect their necks.

    Living Life

    Celebration

Even through five years. I rejoice that I can ride my bike and to most people I do seem healthy, Well I know that things could go south but for not I just want to gain my life back and possibly get the man I love to marry me. It has been hard on him since he lost his wife to cancer it has been a challenge. So I do celebrate the life that God has given me get my life back to living
