    Diagnosed

    Oh No

i discovered a lump in my tongue when i was 21 but my doctors all told me it was probably just scar tissue from biting my tongue or something....3 years later the lump started to grow...and the dr sent me to an oral surgeon who took 8% of my tongue to biopsy. 3 weeks later they call me, throw my file on the desk and say yep you have cancer! at the age of 24 it was not at all what i expected to hear. the cancer was so rare they had to run my results over and over to be sure. acinic cell carcinoma has only been diagnosed to 3000 people in the entire world!

    Procedure or Surgery

i was sent to the james Cancer Hospital at OSU. my dr was fantastic, the staff was fantastic, my after care nurse was fantastic...i had a very long surgery...they removed another 20% of my tongue. took out the lymph nodes in my neck where the cancer had spread. inserted a feeding tube in my nose and blood drainage hose things in both sides of my neck to lessen chance of blod clots...i couldnt speak or eat. i whole head was swollen...i was miserable. but i was alive.
