    Diagnosed

    Oh No

At the time of diagnosis, I was a 48 year old mom of 3 teens....healthy, non-smoker, non- drinker, active, normal weight and no family history of disease. My biggest vice was ( and still is) pasta and chocolate ...but not together. :)

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

the plan was to have chemo Gemsar weekly, 3 weeks on, one week off , for 6 months. extremely nauseated, vomiting frequently. None of the "normal" anti nausea/ vomiting drugs worked. I found Ativan to be the most helpful...and pretty cheap.

    Depression medicine

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Following completion of treatments, I became clinically depressed. I refused to take antidepressants because of the side effect of nausea...I was puking for months and just the thought of being nauseated made me nauseous! My physician and counselor convinced me...after six weeks of a low dose of Zoloft ( 25mg) ...I am very sensitive to drugs...I woke up one morning and remember saying to myself " wow...I forgot what it felt like to feel normal". I told my oncologist he should put all his patients on antidepressants...it made such a difference

    Minimal Side Effects: Neutral/NA
Minimal Impact to Daily Life: Strongly Agree
