    Cancer is back/Recurred

    Oh No

Three weeks ago (mid August 2012) I went to my Dr with a concern that I was experiencing early symptoms of ovarian cancer and asked to have the CA-125 blood test and an ultrasound. Two days later I was told that I had a cystic mass measuring 10cm on right ovary and my blood test was slightly elevated (31). My new surgeon was very optimistic that results would be benign. Surgery revealed a small section of tiny cancer cells and I am currently waiting for biopsy results to determine if this has spread. I also want to add here that I had only been aware of symptoms for 4 weeks...bloated abdomen, digestive issues, some abdominal pain. I just can't believe that one year to the date of chemo ending that I am facing this all over again. Although I am often referred to as the one with the most positive attitude, the strong one, and the resilient one...I am feeling very scared.

    Radiation

The actual radiation treatments went better than expected....My skin did not burn and I kept up with energy levels.....that is until they stopped. The fatigue hit me like a ton of bricks and lasted for a good 5 months post therapy.

    Surgery

    Procedure or Surgery

Needed a complete histarectomy due to 10cm mass on right ovary. My surgeon felt certain that mass was fluid based. Although everything looked good to the naked eye, the cystic mass contained a small section of tiny cancer cells under microscope. Surgery was therefore more extensive then initially planned. I develop a low tolerance to narcotic pain meds making initial recovery difficult. I am currently 8 days out of surgery and recuperating at home.
