    Colon surgery (colectomy or hemicolectomy)

    Procedure or Surgery

The hospital stay was excruciating! Much pain and loneliness. The actual surger went very well. Was told by surgeon all cancer was removed. I was upheld by many people and many many prayers.

    External radiation

    Radiation

This experience went well when it was done. If I had known then what havoc it would wreak on other parts of my body, I dont know if I would have consented to it.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I am one of the fortunate ones. The way the drugs were administered for me, I had little side effects. There was no nasea or throwing up. I carried my med in a pack, administered through my port. I continued to teach preschool during this time. Neuropothy and tiredness were my biggest complaints.

    Finished treatment

    Celebration

I walked out of Chemo on my last day, feeling that through Gods help, I had come through a major stepping stone in life. I am blessed to have had six years of remission and more life yet to come.

    Bowel obstruction

    Side Effects

One of the major problems I have had is what I call intestinal obstruction. The radiation caused deformity in my colon. This caused stool to back up and not be able to push through. Any obstruction eventually causes great pain until the blockage can pass through. I am grateful that this does not happen as badly as it used to.
