Diagnosed
Oh No
I had pap smears and mammograms every year since I was 40. Went through menopause in my 50's with no problems except for mood swings and hot flashes. After menopause, I started spotting every once in a while. I mentioned this to my internist after about 6 months and she sent me to an ob-gyn. This new doctor did a uterine biopsy and found cancer. We weren't very pleased by the way they told me. It was over the phone, very cold and direct. We were in shock. Cancer did not run in my family. After the diagnosis, it was like a whirlwind. I was told I had cancer in January of 2010. Whisked into a gynecological oncologist in February 2010. She decided to do a hysterectomy with a da vinci robot. This was a mistake. My husband and I did not think to ask her if she had any previous experience with the robot. I guess we thought that she knew what she was doing. We found out later that she had been the last of the doctors to come on board with the robot. The operation went well. I was in the hospital overnight.
