    Procedure or Surgery

I had a craniotomy (total resect) to remove the tumor. I felt better immediately after surgery (in the post-op room) bc my headache was finally better. I had a hard time not talking on the phone bc I wanted to tell ppl how I was. I was going places, not driving of course, 3 days after surgery. I put plastic wrap over the staples and covered that with a headband. I was discharged from the ICU less than 24 hours after having the surgery. I was misdiagnosed for almost a year. I was finally diagnosed at the ER bc they did a CAT scan. It was, ironically to prove there was nothing wrong with me. The ER doc gave me discharge instructions before he got the results back. His plans for me changed when the results came back. I had to be taken by ambulance to a lgr hospital- UPMC Shadyside.

    Loss

I had a hysterectomy Aug. 2011, which I had a hard time with emotionally. My cervix had gone from normal looking to abnormal in 6 months. The biopsy said it wasn't cancerous yet but it was the kind of cells that become cancerous very quickly. I lost friends bc I wasn't fun. I quit going out with friends months before my diagnosis. I was too tired and I had a constant headache/nausea. I also made really good friends with cancer, the same type as me even, and they've died. That's always hard. I had to quit my job. I haven't returned but I stay home with my son. That's enough of a job. I have a lot of trouble completing anything if there are multiple steps involved- like receiving directions orally. I can't remember beyond the 2nd step, things/directions get jumbled and I don't "get it". I am very self conscious now because I have such large stretch marks and extra skin folds/pouches. It makes me really nervous about going out with ppl or even wearing tank tops. The stretch marks are still the entire length of my upper arms and about 1.5 inches wide. My stomach has them too. Of course it's cosmetic and I'm happy to be alive but it definitely has changed me forever.
