    Diagnosed

    Oh No

I am a very active 48 year old and play ice hockey weekly. I suffered a small injury to my lower back and went to my family physician. He eventually ordered an x-ray that was negative. However the pain persisted and eventually he ordered a CT Scan which revealed a large mass on my left kidney. I immediately transferred from our community hospital to Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles. I was scheduled for surgery on Sept 14th where my kidney was removed. The surgery went well and I began my recovering. The Surgeons removed 4 lymph nodes and did not see evidence of the disease at any other location. I began my recovery in the hospital and after a few days I noticed some swelling in my lymph nodes in my neck. A subsequent biopsy determined that the cancer had spread very rapidly to my lymph nodes. I was eventually discharged after 20 days and began my recovery at home.

    Bowel obstruction

    Side Effects

During my surgery I did lose a small section of bowel that had been damaged by the tumor. I was very fortunate that the cancer had not spread, but I had a very difficult time eating and getting my weight back on following surgery. I am not sure if it was the pain meds, the procedure, chemo, or disease but 3 weeks of very little movement.

    Flu-like symptoms (fever, chills, sweats)

    Side Effects

Still having some night sweats. Some days better than others. Talked to Dr. said it could be a combination of things, but likely just the body fighting the invaders.
