    Diagnosed

    Oh No

No one thought my biopsy would come back positive so I was shocked when it was. My tumor was so small but had already spread into four lymph nodes.

    Mastectomy

    Procedure or Surgery

I had a lumpectomy first then sought a second opinion. They thought more tissure should be removed to I proceeded to a mastectomy with radical lymph node dissection. Five years after that I had a prophylactic mastectomy on the other side with bilateral reconstruction. Lots to say about but I won't go into everything now.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Lots to say about chemo but won't go into everthing right now but happy to answer questions. That's why I'm on this site. Also had radiation and bone strengthening infusion for osteopopenia.

    Hair loss (alopecia)

    Side Effects

Hair loss was my main side effect. My doctor told me I would definitely loose my hair so I wasn't surprised. I also felt really good the day after with lots of energy. My face looked flushed the day after also because of the benadryl they gave me to prevent an allergic reaction. The third day would always be the worst day but was still able to function so all in all not too bad except for the hair loss.

    Finished treatment

    Celebration

The day I finished treatment with chemo was great. I had radiation after that which was not bad except that you had to be there every day.

    whether to had reconstructive surgery

    Decision Point

Like I said before, I had reconstructive surgery five years after my cancer was diagnosed. Some people do it when they have the mastectomy but I couldn't imagine making the kind of decision when I had so much else going on.
