    Lumpectomy

    Procedure or Surgery

The surgeon did not get everything so needed a second surgery. No infection but major itching. The doctor had me taking Benadryl by mouth, than applying a topical Benadryl solution to the area. This lasted for several weeks.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

The chemotherapy had steroids that kept me awake at night; the doctor gave me a prescription for sleeping medicine. No energy, 15-20 minutes of semi-physical activity wiped me out for the entire day. I always felt like those first few steps climbing out of the swimming pool after swimming for a while. Chemo brain started shortly after treatment, still fighting after 7 years but finally getting better, found the right doctor. It was a good thing I was unemployed because I could not have worked.

    External radiation

    Radiation

Treatment was daily except weekends for 33 days. I had burning and severe itching, absolutely miserable. The radiation doctor was young and not very experienced. He kept ignoring my complaints. Finally, talked to the head nurse (after talking to almost every other person involved with my treatments, who all said “talk to the doctor”), told her to stop my treatments. That got the doctor’s attention! Also, no privacy whatsoever.
