    Diagnosed

    Oh No

After having to have a total abdominal hysterectomy in 1993 at the tender age of 25 (getting over that hurdle took a long time), but at age 38 I was FINALLY able to adopt my beautiful daughter and four weeks later was given the awful news that I had ovarian cancer, needed surgery and chemotherapy.

    Allergic reaction

    Side Effects

I lost my hair (who cares), joint pain, very tired and was very nauseaus, which was controlled with medication. I became allergic to the carboplatin and my chemo drug was changed to Gemzar and Avastin. These drugs have a minimal amount of side effects. My hair grew back (again who cares), still had joint pain, still tired and still a little nauseaus, however none of it was as bad as it had been while I was being given the carboplatin.

    Diagnosed

    Oh No

Not only am I in the middle of chemotheraphy for ovarian cancer, but I have now been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and must stop chemotheraphy to have a surgery for tyroid cancer and then restart my chemotheraphy for the ovairan cancer. Only good news was that the two were not related in any way. Thank you God!!

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Started a new chemotheraphy drug called Taxol along with Avastin. The Taxol was one of the harshest chemo meds I have been introduced to. It made my feet peel horribly and they were so sore I had to soak them in ice water every day. The Dr. took me off of the Taxol and put me back on the Gemzar and Advastin.

    Remission

    Celebration

I had my last chemotherapy treatment in January of 2012. I continue to receive the Advastin once a month to see if it will prolong my remission timeframe as my cancer is a chronic cancer and I will be on and off of chemotheraphy for the rest of my life. We must all look at the glass as 1/2 full and not 1/2 empty. I am still here 5 years later and I plan on being here for at least another 60 years. Your mindset needs to be I will fight and I will NEVER give up.
