    Cancer has spread/Metastasized

    Oh No

Started at a VA Clnic, and was told I had HCV and cirrhosis and interferion would not help. I was given the shots for Hep A & B. I was told I would need a transplant in about five yrs. I was put on Laculose and other meds for edema and pain. I went 15 yrs. with no problems until my AFP went to 12 and they said they would watch it every 6 mo. It went to 19, 54, 194 and at this time I looked up AFP and read what it was and what was they going to do so they sent me for a ultrasound and sail it was OK but had gall stones. After the AFP reached 300 (I was seeing a NP) I said this is not right so he said it was because of the HCV and wanted to know if I had any dieases. I told him you've been treating me all these years and you don't what your treating me for. So he put in the computer Pt. expresses concern about AFP. I told him I was taking it to my PCP which had an accident and was in the hospital. I went to a clinic who run a ton of test, most were not needed, and my AFP was 450, he did a CT and told me I had cirhosis. My PCP started seeing Pts. two to three days a week. I presented my case to him which he is a Dr. that reallycares about his pts. He requested the test from the other Dr. and after a mo. had not answered his request so I asked him to run it again if he had to but the AFP was still going up. He had a CT run and told me I had a tumer and he was sending me to Vanderbilt. My AFP was over a 1000 and they did two TACE proceedures and was very painfull after the fourth day. I thought they were going to burn it out but instead they gave me drugs that were from the lat 60's with more side effects than I care to list. The main drug was Doxorubicin and the second TACE had the Doxorubicin Beads. It lowered the AFP to 20. Now they started the Transplant workup, that was two weeks of testing and they found it had spread to the upper lobe of my lung so that killed the transplant. I was put on Nexavar at half dose but the side effects were killing me, Im flat footed and the sores were bad and the first layer of skin came off my hands and my mind was driving me up the wall and after two months I cut the Nexavar and thats where I am now, AFP right at 2000 but Im back to my old self with a lot of pain but my PCP has it under control. I was told in Dec 2011 I was looking at 4 to 6 months and maybe 9 with the Nexavar and this is Sept 2012. My Oncologist said the Nexavar was the only thing left or if I wish to stop it she would honor my decision. I started a diet that I don't know if its helped but it sure has not hurt anything, Im taking some natural non toxit meds and put it in the lords hands. There is one more thing. I was treated for years for Hep-C and Vanderbilt said I had Hep-B. I had my PCP check and the test showed no Hep-B. I have been on Baraclude and afraid to stop it because it says if you do it will make your liver worse. As for my question about HBV or HCV is still unanswered.

    Side Effects

From the Nexavar, more pain and side effects. I've talked to other pts. that are having good luck with it with few side effects so I guess it depends on the cancer and what other treatments you have had.

    Other Care

Im single, live alone, and have to rely on my pastor for everything, he has been a one person support team. Im sure I wouldn't be here today if not for him. As I said in Oh No, Im taking it one day at a tiime and looking into more natural non toxic treatment. I have not give up yet.
