    Diagnosed

    Oh No

Hearing the words that you have cancer is a very traumatic experience. I pulled family and friends close to me to prevent emotional meltdown. I became depressed and very emotional because I thought I was going to die. Cancer is a very unpleasent experience.

    Surgery

    Procedure or Surgery

I was diagnosed on a Thursday, the following Thursday, I underwent surgery to remove a grapefruit sized tumor from my left armpit. I was in excrutiating pain before the surgery, was on massive pain killers and depressed. After the surgery, which lasted 3 hours, I spent the night in the hospital and walked out the next day with zero pain. Even though I had a pretty intensive scar and was sent home with a drain tube sticking out of me, I felt wonderful. Today is 4 weeks later, I have regained the use of my arm with no pain, the drain tube was removed and I am well on my way to a full recovery.

    Pain medicine

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I was diagnosed with Cancer during my senior year in college,( later in life attending). I was placed on pain killers 2 weeks before my surgery (Vicodin) minimal impact to daily life, after the CT Scan and Ultra Sound. 1 week before surgery I was placed on Dilaudid which made me sleep all the time. I was also in the middle of midterm exams during this time period. Positive thoughts lead to positive results. I scored a 98, 96 and 100 on 3 midterm exams, despite cancer surgery and spending the night in the hospital.

    Easy to Do: Strongly Agree
    Minimal Side Effects: Agree
Minimal Impact to Daily Life: Disagree

    Cancer is Gone

    Celebration

1 week after my surgery, my Dr informed me that I was cancer free and that my tumor had been encapsulated and that due to the type of tumor I had, chemo therapy would not work nor be needed. I am scheduled to meet with radiation and oncology this coming week and will be undergoing radiation treatments only.

    External radiation

    Radiation

I am currently at the end of my 3rd week of radiation treatment and have 3 more to go. So far I am doing great. It takes the technician longer to get me situated on the table than the actual procedure.

    Other

    Side Effects

I just completed 6 weeks of radiation treatment. I did good for the first 5 weeks then I started experiencing fatigue, weight gain and 2nd degree burns in the area where the tumor was located. My Dr is awesome, he prescribed me an aloe base burn cream with hydrocortizone in it and I am doing much better.
