    Oh No

Got the call from the surgeon telling me the result from my stereotactic biopsy showed DCIS. But, he says, it is in the earliest stages and he needs for me to make an appointment to talk about my 'options'. But first a breast MRI. After the breast MRI I have an appointment with the surgeon who tells me the MRI did not show any other DCIS in the other breast. Praise God! Now I have two options, lumpectomy with radiation or mastectomy without. I am told there is absolutely no difference in the recurral rates with either procedure. I decide on lumpectomy with radiation and will have a sentinel node biopsy and lumpectomy on November 9th.

    Procedure or Surgery

On November 9th I underwent a lumpectomy with SN biopsy. The SN was clear but will not know about the margins until this Friday when I have the follow up meeting with the breast surgeon. The incision is much larger than I expected and the soreness does not seem to be letting up at all. Of course it's only been a week tomorrow. It seems like the doctors provide a minimum pain reliever that has not seemed to help much at all. But it's behind me and I am extremely happy about that. My friends have been wonderful and very supportive. Will post more information as I get it. I know I am very lucky.
