    Internal radiation

    Radiation

I had ingested radiation 105.9 millikaries & was quarantined for 4 days. Once I was in the quarantined room no one was to come in! Had to take 4 showers a day and strip my bed with every shower; my skin had to be scrubbed vigorously with every shower and the water had to remain running 10 minutes after I was done to clear the radiation out of the pipes. The toilet had to be flushed 3 times after using. What I recall as the worst part is the feeling of my flesh being burned from the inside out. The smell of burning flesh was nauseating! I lost my sense of taste for about 3 months. The radiation did cause some damage to my film over my eyes so now I just have to put sustain drops in my eyes; to avoid further scratching of the surface of the eye. Durning my surgery the parathyroid glands were irritated which threw me into hypocalcemia so now I have to take a calcium & vitamin D supplement. Unfortunately I still don't feel as if I have gained back my muscle strength I had prior to my thyroidectomy & radiation treatment.
