    Diagnosed

    Oh No

Diagnosed with a chondrosarcoma in my left humerus. Told my best chance of saving use of my arm was to use my left fibula in my leg in fibular transplant with cryosurgery (liquid nitrogen) to kill any remaining cancer cells. 12 hour surgery--6 months on a cane and a sling, but everything works.

    Side Effects

Very hard to not thinnk about recurrence constantly. Limited my ability to play and take care of my 3 year old autistic son at the time. He had to live with my parents so my husband could work and I could recuperate with my physical therapy and checkups.

    Finished treatment

    Celebration

10 years out my surgeon did not want to see me any more, not even for annual checkups. I will always be grateful for the staff at Sloan-Kettering and especially Dr. Healy and his team. Forever happy to still have use of my arm, no matter the scar left behind--my husband calls it my healing scar, because with it he knows I am well again!
