    Cancer has spread/Metastasized

    Oh No

Well it's offical I have Stage IV cancer. I'm sure that is something no one ever wants to hear. The oncologist gave us the news this morning. On the positive he is scheduling me to start my chemo tratments first thing in the morning. Scared, nervous of the unknown of how I will react to the chemo. MUST stay positive. Not curable but treatable. There is always hope!

    Hair loss (alopecia)

    Side Effects

Woke up this morning with hair all over my pillow. Showered and lost 3/4 of what I had grown back. Oh well : ( . They said that I probably would but radiation must take a little longer than chemo. Bald is THE in look! Just have to keep the dome covered out in the sun.

    Depression/Anxiety

    Side Effects

The least little thing can set me off. A thought, a song, something someone says I start crying. The bone pain from the Nulasta (sp) sets of anxiety if I don't catch it in time. Today when I took my shower I stood a laughed and cried so much that my wife got worried and asked if I was okay. I had clumps of hair coming out. Knew it was going to happen but it is still a shock when it actually happens.

    Remission

    Celebration

Pet scan came back negative. No cancer activity but still have a very small mass in my lung. May need small amount of radiation to finish it off. :-)

    External radiation

    Radiation

Going to start PCI on Wednesday. Going from a 45% chance of developing a brain tumor to a 15% chance is well worth a few more weeks of side effects. Will update as treatment starts.

    Thinking problems

    Side Effects

1st real side effects from PCI radiation. I felt like I was in a fog. I rally had to concentrate on what I was doing and what I had to do next. It left me with anxiety that developed into a panic attack. I went and laid down with some meditation music. Then our two standard poodles joined me and started licking my arms, neck and head. Strange, within a few minutes of their attention I had calmed back down. I did end up have a couple more anxiety waves come over me but nothing like the first one.

    Nausea/Vomiting

    Side Effects

Got half way through breakfast on Sunday and then spent the next 12 hours with the dry heaves. Nothing worse when your muscles hurt so bad. Had chemo the next day and got extra hydration that really helped.

    Fatigue (tiredness)

    Side Effects

Tired every morning. Day after chemo is the worst, tired, sore and sleepy all day. They say rest is the best thing but I'd rather be out and about.
