    Radiation

The mammogram, a followup to my call back was brutal. I had two biopsies, one for the microcalifications, and one for the tumor. I was well sedated for both. In the evening after the sedation wore off , The pain in my right arm and right shoulder were swollen, and extemely painful. Extra strenghth tylenol was not enough.

    Lumpectomy

    Procedure or Surgery

Lumpectomy- Tumor-Microcalcifications- Minimally Invasive surgery-Re-Excision- Positive margins both times- Sentinel Node Biopsy- Needle- Sentinel Node Biopsy- first told it was negative, then told there were told that there were cells of a more invasive cancer. After much thought, decided to go to Oncology, again after much thought, and a visit to Mayo Clinic, had seven weeks of radiation locally. Cancer diagnosis was in January 2009. I am still in Stage One and in remission. Taking Arimidex. Who knows, what the long term answer will be!

    Oh No

I have a problem with density. The previous mammograms thru the years always had a note: No sign of malignancy, but because of density etc. etc. It was difficult to read. This time, When the tecnician finished, I jokingly said, well the torture is over with for this year, because I found the pain of mammograms to be extreme I didn't know that the torture was just beginning .

    Lumpectomy

    Procedure or Surgery

The side effect of radiation was the worst sunburn I have every had and in the worst place possible. I did journal every day after radiation, and from time to time I go back and re-read it, and re-live it so I know where I was at that whole seven weeks. On my last day of prelimary visits to Mayo Clinic, as I was going to my last meeting with my Oncologist in The Gonda BLdg, I felt a sense of dread, knowing that all the tests, and consultations were done and now,I had to go home and, face radiation treatments. Then I heard a piano playing, and a vocalist singing "All is well with my soul", a hymn I had never heard before, coming from an open area below. As I stopped to listen, I suddenly felt a sense of peace and wellness, come over me, and I thought, whatever happens, happens, but I am going to be allright.

    Finished treatment

    Celebration

On the day I graduated from radiation, I took pictures of the Radiation machine, and the mural which had been my focus during radiation. Then I went to Tony Roma's for barecued Ribs, and a huge Strawberry Daquiri.
