    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

Dad went through chemo. Had a nurse coming to the house to hook up a drip bag he wore. He ended up in the hospital for about a week due to low iron and stuff. Since the tumor is still blocking his stomach he's having trouble eating, everything has to be pureed to a liquid.

    Radiation

Dad didn't have as much trouble with radiation as my husband had. Went in a got zapped. They had a bell in the hall for him to ring when he finished his last session and he took his mask home.

    Cancer has spread/Metastasized

    Oh No

CT revealed that the tumors along his esophagus and collar bone were indeed gone. However, he now has 5 tumors in his lung and 1 in his liver. Doctors said there wasn't anything else they could do since it had spread while he was receiving conventional treatment, but without any treatment he probably only had 4-6 months so they recommended he find a clinical trial.

    medication

    Clinical Trial

He found a clinical trial that, luckily, was near where I live. It's a pill medication that he takes at home so he only has to come up and see the doctor every two weeks and we go out to lunch together. He wasn't having many side effects and was feeling better. Since the tumor in his esophagus had been gone he's been able to eat regularly and has gained back some of the weight he lost, going out golfing, enjoying daily naps.

The medication in the clinical trial has stopped the growth of the tumor in his liver, but not the tumors in his lung. Had to decide if he should continue with the medication or try to find something else. Decided to look for something else.

    medication

    Clinical Trial

Spent 2 months without treatment looking for a clinical trial, and then waiting until after Thanksgiving to start it. He's feeling ok but tired. Started chemo medication, had bad diarrhea almost immediately, so I also had diarrhea for a couple of days (?!). The trial is in another state so they're flying up there, spent 4 days there the first time, then went up a week later and stayed the night.
