Surgery through the anus to remove tumor

    Procedure or Surgery

The surgery wasn't as painful as what everyone said it would be. I had an awesome surgeon. I was scared because it was my first time in a hospital and first surgery.

    Chemotherapy and radiation combined

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

The chemo was emotionally difficult but not as bad as I'd feared. The radiation was the worse for me. The anxiety of it, the side effects and the pain.

    Other

    Side Effects

I went thru a few side effects after radiation and chemo- I got pneumonia, it thru me into early menopause, I had extreme muscle and joint soreness, I had anxiety and maybe a bit of depression. The radiation caused burns and of course the bouncing back and forth between constipation and diarrhea. And other side effects such as the hair thinning a lot (had to cut it short) and chemo brain (memory loss).

    Radiation and chemotherapy together

    Radiation

Though it helped to save my life, I did not like going thru radiation at all!!! I did tomo-therapy and though it didn't hurt , I was always anxious and did not like laying in that tub. I had unpleasant side effects too. The last week of radiation was the worse for me.

To remove my port of not

    Decision Point

Doctors recommended I keep port in for at least a year but I wanted it out. So I had it removed.

    Relationship

    Loss

A bad weekend. I just found out my live in partner of 16 years has been unfaithful. I was shocked. I feel so betrayed (with my neighbor an there were others). And... it was happening while I was fighting for my life. 16 years! How much can one person take in a year? First I cared for his mom as she was fighting kidney, lung an brain cancer. Then I get diagnosed and he was not the most compassionate person during my battle but I never in a million years would have thought he was cheating on me. Never. Wow! Trying to stay positive and focusing on continue recovering. Onward and upward. Now single. Scared about getting sick again and being alone. But I cannot dwell on any of that.

    Remission

    Celebration

Had my three month examine and they say I am cancer free so I am thrilled!!!!! I have to continue getting checked every 3 months. I got my PET scan in August and no sign of cancer....This was an AMAZING day for me . Aug. 6, 2012 is when my PET scan results were read to me. Happy me!!! They say I call it remission. I would rather call it survivor.
