    Oh No

Just came home from urologist. Diagnosed with bladder cancer and possible kidney cancer. Surgery is the cure and am waiting to have it scheduled. I wish I could recite everything he said but my head is still spinning.

    Procedure or Surgery

I underwent surgery on October 31, 2012. The said all tumors were removed and that it went extremely well, even better than he thought it would. So good, that I didn't have to go through the six week post procedure injection of preventative medicine into the bladder that the doctor said was most likely going to be needed. When I was ready to go home from the hospital, I started bleeding from where the catheter was inserted all over the floor. The nurses had to get me a adult diaper and a pair of scrub pants to wear home. I'm now on a three month cycle to visually check my bladder for any re-occurrence. The only thing that happened that I wasn't fully ready for but told it was going to happen was having catheter for 4 days after the procedure and that I was going to have to take it out myself. Well, there was very little pain from the procedure but the catheter was sure uncomfortable. I always had the feeling that I had to urinate but knew I couldn't because of the catheter. They gave me some medicine that was supposed to help with this feeling but either it didn't work or I needed much more. Also not ever having a catheter before, I was surprised about how often I had to empty it. The medicine also made my urine orange which was a surprise. I had to call the doctor the first time I saw it as I was worried if it was due to blood. This was all explained to me but being on my own and completely groggy from the anesthesia, I guess I forgot some of the things said. I'm doing OK now and praying to stay that way.
