    Wide excision surgery

    Procedure or Surgery

HadSurgery took place November 1, 2011 to remove an ulcerated tumor that started as amole and grew to an ugly mushroom shaped large growth for biopsy. This growth was on the back side of my calf muscle and was creating a lot of discomfort along the back side of my leg. Above that on the same leg was a swollen lymph node to the right of the groin area about the size of a tennis ball that was removed as well. Both incisions were between 4and 6 inches in length requiring stitches. Recieved the diagnosis about a week later with the results of metastatic melanoma.

    Clinical Trial

Was refered to University of California Irvine cancer treatment center. It was a fight with the insurance to have them cover me there because UCI is in another county. After hours on the phone my wonderful wife assured I am going to the best place possible. After seeing my oncology doctor, getting a PT scan and MRI came back some good news, although it was confirmed stage III c Metastatic Melanoma the scan results revealed the cancer to be contained in the right leg as of now. This news was a great relief. My oncology doctor seem to be excited about me being a good canidate for a research drug called AXITINIB which from my understanding restricts the growth of new blood vessels. The side effects seem to be minimal. The doctors are wanting the medicine to raise my blood pressure. Blood pressure has not changed. With these results I am expecting my dosage of Axitinib to be raised when I see the oncology doctor the 27th of January. Was also put on Paxil for anxiety seems to work somewhat. Depression is a regular part of having cancer I am sure. If my wife was not here for me I would not do well she is my strength, life and Love. Thank you my wonderful beautiful wife with a heart that is truly bigger than life. Thank you all for your support and this great website
