    Implant chemotherapy port

    Procedure or Surgery

Installed a chest port (still have it) into a major vein and also an abdominal port just in the peritoneal lining (removed after 6 cycles -- once every three weeks -- of carboplatin). My tip is that, if you have the chance, have an interventional radiologist install your smart ports (ports that can be used for dyes for scans, in addition to drawing blood and chemo infusion). Surgeons are fine, but many times the chest port line is not looped over the collarbone. Going over the collarbone / clavicle which seems to make for far less problems with access and use of the port.
