    Wide excision surgery

    Procedure or Surgery

When I had my surgery, I was breastfeeding a 3 month old baby. Talk about a difficult period of time. The wide excision was done on my upper right arm, making it impossible to hold my daughter for a few weeks and very difficult for over a month.

    Diagnosed

    Oh No

I went to the dermatologist to have a mole removed but I never imagined it was something to worry about. My 3 year old and her friend kept asking my what the mole was and if I had a boo boo. They also thought it looked like a bug. One night before bed, I scratched my arm and caught the mole. It bled. In hindsight, that is not a good thing. The derm removed it on a Tuesday and told me to call back for the results in 7-10 days. Well, my phone rang on Thursday, 2 days later. It's never a good sign when a doctor is so prompt. I was told that the mole was, indeed, melanoma and my file was transferred to a local plastic surgeon, who would be handling my treatment.
