    Diagnosed

    Oh No

Not surprised, found the tumor myself. Only cried one evening. Determined to fight it and let's get on with it.

    Chemotherapy

    Drug or Chemo Therapy

I had AC chemo x 4 rounds, Taxol x 12 rounds and herceptin for one year. Despite it's bad rep the AC wasn't bad, never was nauseated or threw up. Did lose my hair. Taxol had worse side effects. Lost eyelashes and eyebrows, the bottoms of my feet peeled, i lost toe nails, had a itchy rash, bladder problems, constipation, vision problems and neuropathy but the fatigue was the absolute worst. 10 months out from chemo all that remains is neuropathy. Tingling in my toes and finger tips and a disturbance in feeling in the muscles of my rib cage. May have that always.

    Minimal Side Effects: Disagree
Minimal Impact to Daily Life: Neutral/NA

    External radiation

    Radiation

Had very little radiation burn like a mild sunburn. The biggest nuisance was driving 15 miles each way to the treatment center five days a week for nearly seven weeks.

    Painless Experience: Strongly Agree
    Minimal Side Effects: Strongly Agree
Minimal Impact to Daily Life: Agree

Anemia (low red blood cell counts)

    Side Effects

I stated most of the side effects previously under chemo. Forgot about the anemia. I had blood transfusions twice. I also had neutropenia and had to have shots to build up white blood cell count. Christmas time last year I had a zero white blood cell count. Yet I only missed 3 1/2 days work through it all. A positive side effect, I lost 22 lbs and have only gained back 5 (I needed to lose that weight). I often wondered if food would ever taste good again. I'm happy to say most of it does.

    Finished treatment

    Celebration

Had dinner with my family to celebrate end of treatment. Threw my wig out as soon as my hair was GI Jane length. Celebrated that by donating my wigs.

    Am taking tamoxifen.

    Other Care

Have hot flashes, again. (I thought I was with all that). Other than that nothing much for side effects. Am having breast reduction surgery on the other side so I "match" in December. Always wanted to be smaller. Will be somewhere between D and DD cup. Had port out a couple of weeks ago. Getting back to normal!

    Breast reduction surgery

    Other Care

Had breast reduction surgery on left breast so it matches up with the post-lumpectomy right breast. A month out from surgery and very happy with the results. It looks good and after I had the surgery I noticed that nagging chest/rib ache was gone. Must have been the unequal size.
