    External radiation

    Radiation

I had 5 weeks of daily radiation. I changed my hours at work to 7:00 am - 3:30 with 1/2 hour for lunch. The first couple of weeks were uneventful. My skin started getting very red, and I would dread having to go every day. Skin burned severely, and looked charred... it was yucky. Black underneath my armpit where they triggered the lymphnodes. I am still itchy in both shoulder areas and neck, where they triggered lymphnodes as well... Tired, mostly just tired.

    Painless Experience: Agree
    Minimal Side Effects: Neutral/NA
Minimal Impact to Daily Life: Disagree

lattisimus dorsi flap surgery. Had surgery on 6/10/13. Everything worked out well, with the exception of blurry vision and headaches. Just had a scan. Will get results on Monday. Not yet enjoying my new cleavage due to the other issues.

    Decision Point

My expanders are where they need to be at this point (and my right tissue will not expand any further) due to the radiation. I go to get the expanders out on 10/22/13, and get implants put in.

    Breast reconstruction complete!

    Milestones

I had the LD flap procedure in June, and they put expanders in...so four months later..ready for the exchange of expanders for saline implants. All went well, except after surgery where I got violently nauseaus... my body cannot handle the pain meds or anesthesia...not sure, but it was terrible. Had my one week followup yesterday. I feel some "slushiness" in the right implant. Dr. said to keep massaging, which I am doing, but still hearing it. Glad to be in the final phase for this... I can't believe how they can take a very "deformed" kind of indented chest, and recreate breasts. Amazing to me. Supposed to go back to work next week, and not looking forward to the stress! One day at a time.
