Misdiagnosed
Oh No
I was a 35 year old female who did smoke a little but nothing major so of course they thought that it could not be lung cancer. They said that it was some kind of infection cause by dental work or something and that they were going to check it again in 6 months.....well that was in Aug 2010 by Sept I was a nervous reck because I knew that it was something other than what they thought so I told the doctor (surgen) that I coughed up a little bit of blood and I was schedualed for surgery a week later.
Segmentectomy or wedge resection
Procedure or Surgery
As soon as I woke up from the surgery the nurse walks over and says "Have you heard that you have cancer" before I broke out in tears I really just wanted to smack her but didn't. I think I cried that whole night. How could this be happening ......I am sure everyone knows those feelings. I was in alot of pain but got out of the hosptal 4-5 days later and home to recover and I did. Home 7 weeks then back to work.
Maintenance chemotherapy
Drug or Chemo Therapy
Well we decided that I should take a round of Chemo just to be on the safe side. It was more me that wanted it than my dr. so I did it and I was sick and out of work for 8 days. Needless to say it did not agree with me at all. I have never felt so bad. So he said no more of that and I will just get scanned every 4 months and go from there.
Remission
Celebration
So I am cancer free and over the next year and a half feeling good. Never picked up a ciggarette again.
Cancer is back/Recurred
Oh No
August 2012 4 days before me and my family go on our first real family trip to Flordia I found out they saw something on the scan. Right about the same place the last cancer was. So surgery to follow soon.
Segmentectomy or wedge resection
Procedure or Surgery
Same surgery longer recovery time. I was in the hospital 7 days this time. I don't know if it is the scar tissue getting all jumbled up or something but my chest is hard and I can hardly feel most of my left side near surgical areas. I have 5 incistions and they were nasty before but goodness you should see them now.
Chemotherapy
Drug or Chemo Therapy
Well it is a lower dose than I had last time but now my doctor insists that I have the treatment seeing that I got it back. Was sick as a dog had to have my husband drive me into the office so I could get some nausea meds through IV. I have to have it every 3 weeks for 12 weeks. I am just so scared.
